Clarke County Virginia has 43 places on the National Register of Historic Places including 5 places of National significance and 14 places of Statewide significance. Significant places include Chapel Hill, Cool Spring Battlefield, Greenway Court, Greenway Historic District and Saratoga.

Many famous people are associated with these Clarke County historic places including Brigadier Gen. Daniel Morgan, Gen. William J. Donovan, Col. Nathaniel Burwell, Warner Washington and Bishop William Meade.

Some of the country's most noteable architects helped create the Clarke County places including George L. Howe, David Meade, Wade Muldoon, Matthew Page, Benjamin Latrobe, H.T.
