Ocean County New Jersey has 36 places on the National Register of Historic Places including 3 places of National significance and 5 places of Statewide significance. Significant places include Barnegat Lighthouse, Georgian Court, Hangar No. 1, Lakehurst Naval Air Station, Double Trouble Historic District and Island Heights Historic District.

Many famous people are associated with these Ocean County historic places including Joseph J. White, Gen. William N. Grier, Capt. Amos Birdsall, William Torrey, Capt. George W. Giberson and John Stoutenburgh.
